Eskom and energy and chemical business, Sasol, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to "collaboratively discover and study potential potential liquified natural gas (LNG) requirements".

This is based on a joint statement by the two businesses, following the signing ceremony from the MoU on Friday.

"The collaboration aims to determine the potential volumes that South Africa requires to ascertain a practical LNG import market, combined with the enabling infrastructure, and will be facilitated by govt-to-government relations the place essential."

"This initiative focuses on applying gasoline for energy generation to supply vital base load electricity and position gas like a critical enabler of re-industrialisation, although also making sure continued supply to the marketplace by unlocking world wide LNG resources.

"As part of its revised gas strategy, Sasol is working on enabling the future supply of LNG to South Africa by collaborating with companies such as Eskom, eskom learnerships existing and future customers, suppliers, and infrastructure developers.
